BLACKWOOD – Camden County College will hold tryouts for women’s basketball and women’s softball early next year and the coach says they will get more student-athletes trying out than in recent years.

“Both softball and basketball will have more tryouts then there has been in years,” said Coach Chip Reitano.

Tryouts for women’s basketball are scheduled to start on Jan. 4. Tryouts for women’s softball are scheduled to start on Jan. 10.

Because the women’s basketball season is expected to begin three months later than usual, the team will play a modified schedule of games.

The women’s softball season is expected to start at its usual time but the team will also play a modified schedule of games.

Under pandemic protocols, student-athletes must get temperature checks and submit a health form to participate in events. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, a temperature of 100.4 or greater means they should not be allowed to participate in events.

“I believe that if we take the proper precautions and follow the necessary steps, we can keep our student athletes as well as our coaching staff safe, but it will take a collective effort and strong leadership to make it all happen,” Reitano said.
