“All employers want college students. It may not be fair but it’s reality. College students are proactive, more reliable and much more organized,” said Joe Pranzatelli, the career center coordinator.

Pranzatelli’s information session will focus on writing resumes, networking, phone skills and how job applicants should present themselves in an interview.

“Resumes are more about accomplishments. They are a visual art. They need to grab somebody’s attention,” Pranzatelli stated.

Pranzatelli said he feels students should use Work Wizard. “Work Wizard is an interactive website that asks questions and throws back correct dialogue. Work Wizard really interacts with students.”

The Skills to Succeed session can help students who have previous work experience and those who have none. Students who plan to attend the do not have to sign up. They can just attend and get advice and guidance for landing the best jobs; however, they should bring a notepad and resume.

Pranzatelli encourages students who cannot attend Skills to Succeed or who prefer one-on-one help to meet with him.

Dominic Henry, a communications major at CCC, made an appointment to work on his resume. Pranzatelli went over many things with Henry. The two went online and Henry was able to learn how to make a detailed resume that will catch an employer’s eye.

Pranzatelli also explained each step of the resume process and showed Henry the lessons of professionalism are to plan, prepare and to proactive. Henry also learned why phone skills are so important and students should prepare a script prior to making a business call.

“The ability to communicate on the phone is critical,” Pranzatelli stated.
