BLACKWOOD – Camden County College will sponsor its first bus trip to Lahaska, Pa., on Dec. 6 to attend the Peddler’s Village Christmas Festival. It will be a day of shopping and dining in a gingerbread village covered in lights, intended to put visitors in the holiday spirit.

In previous years, CCC conducted a trip to New York City for holiday shopping and meeting new students. “New York City is always busy and chaotic,” said Jacqueline Tenuto, assistant dean for student development and support. Peddler’s Village is a more personal, holiday-oriented location at which visitors can shop, enjoy casual or fine dining and spend time with other CCC students, while surrounded by the lights of Peddler’s Village.

“Each year we try to do a different student activity that they (students) normally wouldn’t do in a day,” Tenuto said. “Usually we go to New York, but it’s too busy. We have fun, but it’s too chaotic. Last year I went to Peddler’s Village with my family. People can go shopping and get in the holiday spirit. It doesn’t matter what religious background; it’s non-denominational, it’s just festive and it’s all covered in lights.”

Tenuto said the village is filled with different types of little stores. “One store could be candles; one could be clothing, another could be jewelry. So they are all little stores, and they are all decorated in lights like gingerbread houses. It’s a little village. There’s all kinds of restaurants, and you can get anything from a slice of pizza to a gourmet meal.”

Student Jessica Jeffries said she wants to go on the trip. “I went online and Googled Peddler’s Village website. They have hot cider, and they are roasting marshmallows. I’m excited to go.”

The bus to Peddler’s Village will stop at the Blackwood campus at 2 p.m., the Camden campus at 2:20 p.m. and the Cherry Hill campus at 2:45 p.m. Dec. 6. The bus will depart from Peddler’s Village at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 for CCC students and $25 for the general public and can be purchased at the Blackwood campus at the Office of Student Life and Activities, Community Center, Room 200, 856-227-7200, ext. 4282; at the Camden campus at the Camden Technology Center, Room 200, 856-338-1817, ext. 1320; and at the William G. Rohrer Center in Cherry Hill at the Information Desk, 856-874-6000, ext. 6008.
