The coat drive is sponsored by the Office of Student Life and Activities and is taking place at the Blackwood, Cherry Hill and Camden campuses and Regional Emergency Training Center in Sicklerville.

“Although it may seem silly, not a lot of people have coats,” said Jacqueline Tenuto, assistant dean for student development and support.

Needy Camden County College students get access to the coats first and then whatever remains is donated to Dreams of Tomorrow, a non-profit organization established in 2005 by CEO Bobby W. Harris.

The organization states its mission is: “to provide for the betterment of the South Jersey community through a commitment to address emerging community concerns and problems as they relate to the community’s youth; to offer services and mentoring on behalf of troubled, minority, low-income and at-risk youth, in order to provide a positive influence for these youth and heighten their awareness of educational and economic empowerment opportunities; and to build bridges between the home, school and community.”

“Each year we do get a significant amount of donations,” Tenuto said. Last year, Camden County College received more than 300 coats. This year, as many or more coats are expected.

Dana Robinson, who is in her third semester at Camden County College, praised the effort. “The coat drive is a great way to raise awareness for people in and around our area who cannot afford necessary things, like coats for the wintertime,” Robinson said. “It is a great way to give back to our community and has the potential to make great things happen.”

Gently worn coats can be dropped off at:

Blackwood campus: Community Center second floor lobby

William G. Rohrer Center (Cherry Hill campus): lobby

Camden campus: Camden Technology Center first floor and College Hall lobby

Regional Emergency Training Center: lobby
