BLACKWOOD – On April 25, the Camden County College Blackwood campus played host to the Shuffle Up For Scholarships event. Seventy-five gamblers gathered to raise money for future scholarships at the Connecter Building Atrium.

Shuffle Up For Scholarships is not an annual event; this is, however, the third time the event has taken place and the first time since 2011. Comedian Joe Conklin was this year’s celebrity host and performed 20 minutes of stand-up for the event.

“We’ve had musical entertainment before, so we wanted to do something a little more entertaining,” said event coordinator Melissa Daly.

Attendees had four classic casino games to choose from; “we had Texas Hold ‘Em, Blackjack, Craps and Roulette,” said Daly. Tumbling Dice Entertainment was brought in to set up the event and provide games and additional security.

Those who attended the event had two ticket options and four sponsorship options. The individual tickets cost $60 and included $25 in chips and the High Roller option was $100 with $100 in chips. Sponsor options included $2,500, $1,000, $500 and $100 donations with incentives. The event was cleanly run with no incidents. Due to gambling and open bar, the event was limited to those age 21 and older.

The total raised for this year has not been finalized yet but the number to beat from the last event was around $8,000.
